The Inspiration of Faith and Light

Faith and Light is founded on the belief that each person with an intellectual disability is fully a person with all the rights of a human being, above all the right to be loved, recognised and respected for himself or her self. They are indeed unique and have a mysterious value.

"God has chosen what is weak in the world to confound the strong"

                                                                                (1. Cor 1:2 7)

The need for a Community in order to live his or her faith, everyone, even the most wounded person needs to meet other brothers and sisters in order to create together a warm milieu in which each one may grow. Those who come to Faith and Light to meet people with intellectual disabilities must come in a spirit of receiving from them their specific gifts, while sharing their own gifts with them.

"A new heart I will give you and a new spirit I will put within you. and I will take out your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh."

                                                                         (Ezek. 11.19, 20)

In order to help people with intellectual disabilities find peace of heart, hope and the desire to progress it is certainly necessary to see them in the light of the Gospel, but also to understand their human needs in their suffering and to know how to respond.

"An encounter is a strange and wonderful thing, presence one person to another, but we can be together and not meet, we can live in the same house day after day, sit at the same table, kneel at the same pew, read the same books, but never meet, we can kiss gestures of love apperent tenderness, but never meet a meeting is a strange and wonderful thing. presence one person to another present one person to another, life flowing one to another (Tears Of Silence - Jean Vanier)
